This policy explains what happens to files and information when you use FileTern.

Who operates FileTern
FileTern is the file-tools service available at filetern.com. The legal identity and direct privacy contact of the site operator must be published here before the public launch. FileTern does not ask users to create accounts or provide contact details in this release.
Your file contents
The four tools process the files you choose inside your browser. File contents are not sent to a FileTern application server, stored in a FileTern database or used to train models. Files and generated results remain in browser memory until you reset a tool, close or reload the page, or the browser releases them. Temporary object URLs are used for previews and downloads and are revoked when no longer needed.
Ordinary website data
Loading the website necessarily sends network information to the hosting provider, such as IP address, request time, requested path, browser information and security or diagnostic data. The host may keep access and security logs under its own retention and security practices. FileTern does not add analytics, advertising pixels, profiling or behavioural tracking in this release.
Storage on your device
FileTern stores only the manually selected language in localStorage so the same interface language can be used on a later visit. Working files are not placed in localStorage, IndexedDB, sessionStorage or a service-worker cache. You can remove the language preference by clearing site data in your browser.
Purposes and legal basis
Ordinary network and security data may be processed to deliver, secure and diagnose the website. Where UK data-protection law applies, the anticipated legal basis is the operator’s legitimate interests in providing and protecting the service. File contents are processed by the browser at your direction and are not received by FileTern.
Sharing, transfers and retention
FileTern does not sell personal data. The hosting provider may process ordinary network data and may use infrastructure in more than one country. Relevant safeguards and retention depend on the hosting configuration. Browser-held files disappear according to the browser lifecycle described above; FileTern sets no server retention period for file contents because it does not receive them.
Your rights
Depending on the law that applies, you may have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and portability. Because FileTern does not receive working-file contents or identify users through accounts, it may hold no information that can be linked back to a particular visitor. UK users may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
This policy will be updated before any material change such as accounts, server-side file processing, analytics or advertising is introduced. The date above shows the current version.
